If you love to sing……
Kent Singers is welcoming voices in all parts for the 2010-2011 season. Come and blend with the clean, finely pitched sound of the group. Experience in choral singing, on the church level or other performance level, is helpful.
Kent Singers performs mostly a cappella works under the direction of group members with experience conducting. We typically present a concerts in December and in the spring, both in Kent. Last year our enthusiasm spread, so we added a December performance in Sharon and a spring concert in Sherman, with plans to continue having two performances each season.
Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00. The first rehearsal for fall 2010 will be on Wednesday, September 8. Newcomers are welcome in all parts, from bass to soprano.
Come to a couple of rehearsals to try us out. Then have an informal audition with the rehearsal directors.
The programs Kent Singers develops include early music, baroque, classical and modern works. The 2009 Christmas concert included a Christmas mass by Telemann, a Magnificat by Purcell, a group of Songs of Mary by Brahms, and a number of lively pieces such as Masters in this Hall and Pat-a-Pan. The Spring 2010 concert, entitled "How Can We Keep from Singing," included several 16th century motets and madrigals, works by Buxtehude, Elgar and Dvorak, as well as a piece by a contemporary New England composer.
